TextToMac is a utility program for Macintosh computers. It converts the end-of-line
code of text files between Macintosh, MS-DOS PC, and UNIX formats. These
computers use different codes to indicate the end of each line. Macintosh uses "CR
(0x0D)", MS-DOS PC "CR+LF (0x0D0A)", and UNIX "LF (0x0A)".
+++ How to Use +++
Just drag & drop the file you want to convert to the TextToMac icon.
First, you set the default way conversion method for each file type (from
Macintosh/MS-DOS/UNIX to Macintosh/MS-DOS/UNIX). When you drag & drop a file,
the program recognizes its type and, voila, you get the converted file.
+++ How to Setup +++
First, double-click the TextToMac icon. The Setup dialog box appears.The Setup
dialog box also appears if you drag & drop while pressing the Option key.
There are four things you have to setup.
+How to Convert? (Conversion Method)
TextToMac reads the content of the dropped file and tries to find an end-of-line code.
It recognizes the file type by looking at the form of the end-of-line code. Here you
should set up which type of text file should be converted to which type. For example,
Macintosh -> UNIX
means that the program will convert a text file with the Mac-type end-of-line code to
a file with UNIX-type.
+Where to save the converted file?
You set how to define the folder for saving the converted file. Choose from the
following three.
1. Show "Save as" dialog
The program displays the standard "Save as" dialog box for each of the dropped
files. You set the folder (and the name) each time.
2. Save to the same folder as original
Save the converted file into the same folder as the original, with a different
name. The new name will be the original name plus an extension (suffix). The
program alerts you if a file with the same name already exists.
3. Overwrite original file
The program overwrites the original without changing the name. The alert
message will appear. You can disable this alert by unchecking the box below this
option.
+What extension should be added?
Set the extension to be added to the original file name. Each file type should have a
different extension. If you choose the option 3 written above, the setting will be
ignored.
+The type of the creator for the converted files
The finder launches an application according to the "creator name" written in the
document file. Here you set the application program you want to launch when you
double-click the icon of the converted text file.Click "Set" and the standard dialog box
appears. Select the program you want to use and click "Open". You can also directly
type the Creator name.
+About Fast convert option
In case "Fast Convert" is checked, the conversion will become little bit faster.
With this option, TextToMac omit to draw the progress bar and to check user interrup
during one file is processed. So, this option is only effect to large text file conversion.
+About Convert Folder option
In case "Convert Folder" is checked, you can drag and drop folder onto TextToMac in order to convert all TEXT files inside the folder. If you do not want convert folder inside dropped folder recursively, uncheck "Convert Subfolder" option.
+++ Miscellaneous +++
The end-of-line codes are the following.
Macintosh ..... CR (0x0D)
MS-DOS ........ CR+LF (0x0D0A)
UNIX .......... LF (0x0A)
If TextToMac doesn't find these codes in the dropped file, it does nothing, .
The Setup dialog box also appears if you drag & drop while pressing the Option key. If
you click "Save" after changing the preferences, the program saves the new
preferences and then converts the files. If you click "Temp", the program converts
the files according to the new temporary setup but does not save it.
Access PC may hang up when you copy a file with more than one extensions (e.g.
"Test.c.dos") to a DOS floppy. TextToMac is likely to generate such a file, so be
careful!
+++ Changes from version 1.2 +++
